Something different
Yesterday I had a little time on my hands, and found myself downloading a few different brushes for Photoshop. While I consider myself to be a photographer first and foremost, I often get spurts of creativity to create other media (which is how I created my old—or at least currently underused—logo, all past incarnations of my website, and few other things) using the other programs in the Adobe CS4 suite, namely Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks, and InDesign. I’ve messed around in Illustrator plenty (I was using the program before I determined I was a photographer), but haven’t given Photoshop a full run yet. Still haven’t actually, as there’s far too much one can do with it without straying from their usual purposes. Mostly, I use the program for advanced skin retouching, cloning and healing to clean up images, and a few composites here and there. For me to go beyond that, I’d be dipping into the realm of digital artists. And so I did.
In no way do I claim the following two images to be anything special. They were created in about 15-20 minutes each, as a simple test stemming from momentary boredom. The first was supposed to be a joke, and the second was a touch more serious, but both turned out to be rather visually interesting in their own way. I have my own private opinions on abstract art; these images were definitely a different turn from them.
I’ll definitely be playing around in the future with a photo/digital art blend, but on a more toned-down level, simply to push what I’ve been doing with my images further to see if it works. Photojournalism it is not.
